Why Bats Fly At Night

I’d like to think of bats as shy creatures,
afraid of others than the dark just
like me.
I prefer walking alone to
Matteo Ricci at night hearing nothing
but my footsteps.
It gives me a sense of peace,
knowing that there’s nobody else around.
Nobody strutting in her fashionable clothes,
geeky getup,
jock jersey
or emo look.
Not that I am a people hater.
It’s just that too many people make the world
seem so small that
I get suffocated.
The corridors,
usually bustling with students at day,
seem to be grand hallways leading
me to places I’ve never been before.
They are wide spaces speaking to
me saying how magnificent the Ateneo is.
I can even say that the university becomes magical
at night.
